I was going to nail an awesome graphic design job, live in a fun town, and do a whole lot of traveling. Later, I would marry my military boyfriend and build a Christ-centered marriage in a Pinterest-worthy home. I was going to rock at adulting!

Real talk? I was not where I needed to be in my faith. I mean, I grew up going to church and was always involved in a youth group or bible study, even through college. However, I did not understand the difference between a good plan and God’s plan. Now, I see that my desires guided my decisions after college and I depended on my own strength to tough it out when things got hard. I was not walking in faith like I thought.

Due to circumstances that would take too long to explain, I switched up my plan. My priorities shifted from seeking an awesome job in a cool town to pursuing marriage and adapting to military life. When I thought I was being flexible, I was instead losing myself in a mess of twists and turns. Soon enough, everything I built crumbled. Well…more like crashed and burned.

Spoiler alert: I’m okay now. But I really wasn’t for a long while. Salted Brew’s story starts with my divorce. I remain vague on the details there because ultimately, that’s not the story.

I felt like the world only saw my baby face and ran with some ugly assumptions. I felt the weight of nasty labels: divorced. failure. quitter. mess. Through a lot of hard work and answered prayers, I grew to understand what it actually means to have faith. I learned how to see God’s hand in everything, even a broken mess of a story like mine. As I moved forward, I started this blog and hoped to just be transparent with my struggles and encourage others with my thunks on life. My story is about healing and transformation that is only possible from God.

One of the biggie tools in my healing and growth involves my passion for bible journaling. I met Shanna Noel of Illustrated Faith at two different workshops, about six months apart. In that window of time, God revealed so much to me and the transformation was apparent, even to her! To this day, it still floors me that she even remembered me.

 

After that, she asked me to join one of her design teams and create tools for bible journaling. She just knew I had a story for His glory. With the team, I get to design digital goodies, think out loud, and share my faith with other women all over the world. As my audience online grew, a set of verses always stood out to me:

 

“You are the salt of the earth…You are the light of the world…let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”

Matthew 5:13-16

 

My mission here with Salted Brew is to become salt of the earth via design, tools, and real talk. To me, that means being transparent with struggles, making faith real and applicable, and having fun along the way. Let’s talk about anything and everything here!
